We have a tv show here called mythbusters and they go out and do weird stuff you hear about.
One myth is that you can exchange used french fry oil for diesel fuel and the only thing is you have to strain it really well ,like over night. It works. , the car they used got 33 miles per liter diesel fuel and 30 miles per liter used fryer oil.
The car ran fine on it. I don't know what the long term use of fryier oil would do to the engine but it was fine while they used it. Anit that a kick in the pants.
